The Community Fine Arts Network started as a vision by Mr. Fran Badrak, Director of Fine Arts for the Schertz-Cibolo -Universal City Independent School District. As a music educator for over twenty-five years, Mr. Badrak clearly understood the connection between fine arts and academic success. In order to expand the fine arts programs within the district, it was going to take some innovative approaches to funding and programming. During a number of conversations with George Ricks, former SCUC-ISD Board Member, the ideas began to take shape. They both knew what the end result should be, but the challenge would be to get the community involved.
The key to the organization was to be the participation of the public. What better way to help children get involved in fine arts than to get their parents involved? In early 2005, the name began to take shape. With the community playing a big part in the program it made sense to call the organization The Community Fine Arts Network. This name also provided the group with a catchy and easily recognizable nickname - CFAN.
The Community Fine Arts Network was incorporated as a Texas Non-Profit Corporation in July, 2005. Federal Non-Profit 501 (c)(3) status was granted in March 2006.
In November 2005, CFAN sponsored its first event. Every third grader in the district attended The First Annual Artisans Fair, where they saw artists, a potter, a dance troupe, bands and a drama group perform their crafts. They were all able to participate as well as observe the artists.
Long term funding for CFAN programs is designed to be derived from the CFAN Concert Series. The program goal is to host four concerts per year featuring nationally known musicians and performers. The income from these concerts is then used to fund the CFAN programs which return the benefits from the concerts to the students of SCUC ISD. We also are looking for performing artists who would be willing to participate in student workshops prior to their performance. In this way students will get a first hand look at the techniques and experiences of the artists.
CFAN is a young organization and is looking forward to growing programs and moving forward to attain our strategic goals.

The Board of Directors recognized the need to have a logo that represented the goals and mission of the organization. CFAN was established to promote Fine Arts awareness within the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. Therefore it made perfect sense to have a student from SCUC ISD design our logo.
In September, 2005 the art teachers throughout the district assigned their students the task of designing a logo for CFAN. The results were amazing. Out of over four hundred entries, the board narrowed the choices down to ten finalists. The winning entry was designed and drawn by Rachel Buchanan, a senior at Samuel Clemens High School.
The winning logo is displayed to the right and is used on all promotional material.
The Community Fine Arts Network (CFAN) is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization that promotes a greater awareness of Fine Arts in the communities of Schertz, Cibolo, Universal City and the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. CFAN supports student achievement in Fine Arts by supporting SCUC ISD educational goals in Fine Arts. As a non-profit organization, CFAN seeks private and public donations and grants to promote and financially support the goals set out by the organization.
